Parents Demonstrate How To Introduce A Dog To A Newborn Baby In Home Video

Your dog can be just as much part of the family as a child can be.

Add a newborn baby into the mix and things could get a little confusing for your pet.

That was the view of these new parents who filmed a home video introducing their newborn, who they'd just brought home from the hospital, to their dog in a 'how to' style video.

The three-minute video gives a step-by-step guide to how they introduced their dog to their newborn.

bbay dog meet

  • First, the new mum enters by herself and greets the dog, giving him a stroke and telling him he's a good boy.

  • Daddy and baby don't enter until the dog has been calmed down and told to sit down.

  • Daddy and baby enter while the dog is laying down, and slowly crouch down so the dog can erm, sniff the baby.

  • dog baby meet 1

  • If the dog gets too excited, the dad stands up again until he has calmed down.

  • Warning: this part might take a few tries.

  • Finally the dog will understand and lay down, showing you he isn't going to harm the little baby.

  • dog baby meet 5

  • Congratulate the dog for being careful and give him some love.

Voila... they make it look pretty easy, don't you think?

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Reviews: If It's Good Enough For Audrey Hepburn...

"A woman's hair is her crowning glory" is a phrase we should all remember, so if you don't want the rest of your life to be as emotionally devastating as Britney's 2007, take heed and look after your hair.

Luckily, one of Britain's most iconic haircare brands Philip Kingsley is here to help - and if you aren't already a devotee, this might just manage to convert you.

Turns out none other than Audrey Hepburn was a loyal fan and... wait for it... our favourite product from the range was actually invented specifically for her!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, £29

Anyone who's been bleached or highlighted within an inch of their life has heard it before - condition, condition. condition. Condition like it's going out of style. Condition like the conditioner just killed your entire family and the only way to get revenge is to condition your hair more. Use two conditioners!

But what if there was another way?

Loved by bloggers and celebrities alike, Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer is the world's first pre-shampoo conditioning treatment (and one that deserves its place in any beauty junkie's hall of fame).

A saviour for dry and damaged hair, Elasticizer works by delivering a rush of intense moisture to the cuticle - leaving your locks supple and bouncy, without weighing them down.

Once a week, simply apply to wet hair, pop on the plastic shower cap and leave for 20 minutes before following with your normal hair washing routine.

audrey hepburn

US Glamour magazine discovered the brand's amazing history when they spoke to Philip Kingsley's daughter Anabel, hair care expert and trichologist-in-training herself: "Audrey came to see Philip in 1974. She was doing a lot of filming and her hair was in terrible condition because of all the styling and coloring they were doing on set.

"So she went to see him and requested a moisturising treatment that wasn't going to weigh her hair down, as she had quite fine hair. They were using all these heavy creams post-shampoo and her hair was just flat."

Audrey wanted a product to get her hair in better condition and give it more body so Philip went straight to his laboratory in London's East End and formulated Elasticizer just for her.

The Breakfast at Tiffany's star loved it so much, she ordered pots and pots to be sent over to her home in Switzerland - and seeing it's success, Philip brought it out as a permanent product in his haircare range.

Well if it's good enough for Audrey...

Family History Of Breast Cancer Doesn't Affect Chance Of Successful Treatment For Women With Disease, Study Finds

Women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a reduced chance of successful treatment if they have a family history of the disease, according to a new study.

Researchers from the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust examined the cases of 2,850 women under the age of 41 who were diagnosed with breast cancer and treated in the UK.

The Prospective Outcomes in Sporadic versus Hereditary breast cancer (POSH) study found that there were no significant differences in cancer recurrence rates after treatment for women with a history of breast cancer in their family compared with those without.

Ramsey Cutress, an associate professor in breast surgery, said: "Successful treatment for breast cancer is just as likely in young patients with a family history of breast cancer, as in those without a family history.

"Patients with a family history of breast cancer can therefore be reassured that their family history alone does not mean that their outcome will be worse."

The researchers now plan to investigate whether certain breast cancer gene variants have any impact on the effectiveness of different anti-cancer treatments.

Principal investigator Professor Diana Eccles said: "There is some evidence in laboratory experiments and observations in humans that BRCA1 gene carriers in particular may be more sensitive to certain types of chemotherapy.

"If the outlook is more optimistic than might be expected for these patients, this will help in planning future preventive surgical options at the time of breast cancer treatment."

Commenting on the study, Samia al Qadhi, chief executive at Breast Cancer Care, said: "Many younger women with breast cancer are terrified about it coming back, especially when they have seen other family members face the disease.

"This crucial study now gives clear evidence confirming that, rather than a family history, it is the type and stage of the breast cancer and the treatments given which are the biggest factors influencing each person's survival.

"It's also important to remember that spotting the signs early is vital - diagnosing breast cancer as soon as possible can lead to simpler and more effective treatment."

Having An Orgasm Every Day May Lower Prostate Cancer Risk For Men, Study Suggests

Men who have an orgasm every day have a lower risk of prostate cancer than men who do not ejaculate regularly, according to a new study.

The research, from Harvard Medical School, is the largest prospective study to date on ejaculation frequency and prostate cancer.

The study followed almost 32,000 healthy men for 18 years, 3839 of whom were later diagnosed with prostate cancer.

couple bedroom happy

The researchers asked the male volunteers about their average monthly frequency of ejaculation between the ages of 20-29 and 40-49.

They found that frequency of orgasm throughout both periods did have an impact on the risk of prostate cancer.

For instance, men who ejaculated 21 or more times per month between the ages of 40-49 had a 22% reduction in risk of developing prostate cancer compared to men who ejaculated four to seven times per month.

Other lifestyle factors such as diet and fitness were taken into account, but the researchers still concluded that regular orgasms were linked to decreased prostate cancer risk.

However, the reason behind this link is still unknown.

"While these data are the most compelling to date on the potential benefit of ejaculation on prostate cancer development, they are observational data and should be interpreted somewhat cautiously," Dr Jennifer Rider of Harvard Medical School said in a statement.

"At the same time, given the lack of modifiable risk factors for prostate cancer, the results of this study are particularly encouraging."

The research was presented at the American Urological Society earlier this week.

This isn't the first study to link a man's bedroom habits to his prostate cancer risk.

A 2014 study found that men who'd had sex with more than 20 female partners were 28% less likely to develop the disease than those who'd only slept with one partner in their lives.

The researchers also found that men who had never had sex were nearly twice as likely to develop prostate cancer as those who had.

Commenting at the time, co-author of the study Professor Marie-Elise Parent said: "It is possible that having many female sexual partners results in a higher frequency of ejaculations, whose protective effect against prostate cancer has been previously observed in cohort studies."

"They live with Tom, which was their choice. I'd love them to live with us, but what can you do?" Kidman told Daily Mail at the time.

Kidman rarely talks about her children, but she has also publicly spoken about how proud she is of Connor and Isabella.

"I am proud of the people that they have become. They are generous, kind and hardworking, and these are traits I love to see in my children," she told Australian Women's Weekly.

She carried on by saying they had both chosen to pursue creative fields and were both doing brilliantly.

Mums Are Better At Baby Talk And Dads Should Cut It Out To Help Their Child's Language Skills

$

Do dads spending time with their babies and toddlers use baby talk? The sort of coo-ing, sing-song, high-pitched voices that mothers put on?

You might be surprised by the answer to this question.

One professor in Washington was keen to find out, so he strapped audio devices to mums and dads for an entire day to see how they interacted.

While mums definitely did address children with this baby talk, dads did not... but it proved to be beneficial.

baby talk

Mark VanDam presented his study to the spring meeting of the Acoustical Society of America yesterday.

He found fathers spoke to their children in the same way they spoke with adults.

VanDam argued this could be because women are more likely to vary the pitch in which they talk anyway and it helps them connect with children on a more intimate level.

There have been similar studies before, which suggested that baby talk is good for a child's development as it introduces children to a more melodic way of talking.

However according to VanDam for fathers, it's not the same.

What Do You Say When You Tickle A Baby? Is It Goochie Goo Or Coochie Coo?

VanDam said that fathers are the "bridge for preschoolers to the outside world" and while they didn't use baby talk, they did vary their volume, as well as using slightly different and more basic words when talking to their baby.

By using more varied words and an adult intonation when speaking to their child, it helps the baby learn how they should connect to others.

“The basic idea is that mums provide the link to the domestic, more intimate type of talk, while dads provide the link to the outside world,” said VanDam.

“In that sense, mums and dads provide different kinds of experiences that give kids more comprehensive exposure to what kinds of language they need in the real world.”

He is hoping to do further studies on this subject looking at single-parent families, as well as same-sex households.

So mums, carry on the baby talk, but dads? Perhaps you best hold off.

Anyone who has tried to dress a toddler knows they have some pretty strong views on what they won't wear (anything you pick out for them being top of the list), so what do they want to wear?

Well, clothing brand J Crew have found a novel approach to tackling this conundrum, by hiring a five-year-old fashion designer to put together a children's clothes collection.

Mayhem isn't just any old five-year-old, she shot to viral fame last year for the incredible copies of red carpet dresses she and her mum made out of construction paper - such as this creative take on the golden gown Anne Hathaway wore to this year's Met Gala.

Asked by HuffPost Style how she felt when she heard J Crew wanted to work with her. Mayhem replied:

"I felt like oh yeah, I totally want to do that."

And the hardest part of the job?
"None of it."

The collection is available to buy from jcrew.com, but scroll down for a sneek peak:

You've probably had your fair share of puzzling maths questions that your child has presented to you.

We get it, taking your brain back to your school years might be a bit tricky - but this question has completely stumped parents and teachers.

The question was set for Vietnamese 8-year-olds in the town of Bao Loc (central Vietnam) and was posted on VN Express.

Here it goes...

maths

All you have to do is fill in the gaps with the digits from one to nine, so that the equation makes sense.

Translated from the VN Express, teacher Tran Phuong explains you have to follow this order of operations: multiply first, then divide, then addition and then subtract.

Tran Phuong told the VN Express: “This problem is difficult even for adults good at math, so it will be difficult for students in grades three."

He said that he had sent the problem to some people who have degrees in economics and they still have not given him an answer.

So, can you solve it?

Body Image Blogger Shaves Head For Cancer Awareness To Prove That Bald Is Beautiful

A positive body image campaigner has shaved her head in the name of cancer awareness.

Leyah Shanks, 22, hopes to challenge the stereotypes surrounding femininity by rocking a bald head, while also raising money for Cancer Research UK.

"It saddens me deeply that when someone is hit with the news that they have cancer, they have to worry about losing their hair, because of how it looks," she says.

leyah shanks

Back in 2014, Shanks' family had a cancer scare.

"We were incredibly lucky in that our scare was just that: a scare. We got the all clear after months of living hell and everything went back to normal," she tells HuffPost UK Lifestyle.

But, recognising that some people are less fortunate when it comes to cancer, Shanks still wanted to do something to raise money and help.

Earlier this year, Shanks promised that if she raised £500 for Cancer Research UK on Just Giving, she would shave her head.

"It bugs me that someone who has just been diagnosed with cancer also has the additional worry on their mind about losing their hair," she says. "This stems from a lack of representation and therefore social exclusion of anyone who doesn't fit this outdated stereotype of a woman.

"Just when someone is potentially facing the battle of their life, they are still worrying about how they look? That's not on."

Through shaving her hair off, Shanks hopes to make a couple of points:

"1. Having an illness like cancer doesn't define you as a person. 2. Hair or no hair, you're gorgeous. 3. Being bald is nothing to be ashamed of."

Story continues below...

Shanks, who is passionate about promoting positive body image for women and runs the Body Confidence Revolution tumblr, says that she "wanted to make a point about beauty standards, especially from the viewpoint of a woman".

"It makes me sick that in 2015, there are still so many rules and regulations that govern the way a woman is 'supposed' to look. We're meant to be stereotypically female, an ideal which in my opinion is prehistoric."

She continues: "Womankind is a deliciously diverse thing in terms of how we physically look and I think that it's so important that real life diversity is represented in the media and fashion industries. In my view, it ought to reflect real life; alopecia, trichotillomania, cancer victims and everyone else who goes through involuntary hair loss is a part of that."

For Shanks, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, ages, races and capabilities.

"Womankind is so much more than how it looks," she adds.

LIKE HUFFPOST UK LIFESTYLE ON FACEBOOK | FOLLOW US ON TWITTER | WE'RE ALSO ON INSTAGRAM

Of course, the 22-year-old reached her target of £500 and - true to form - she shaved her head.

"I felt really empowered, but also slightly emotional," she says. "I couldn't help but think of everyone who has been in the awful situation of having cancer and has been 'forced' to shave their head before it started falling out.

"It made me desperately sad to think of anyone fearing for their life and being made to feel as though they weren't attractive anymore.

"Just because a person has cancer, that doesn't mean that it defines them and it certainly doesn't take away their sexuality."

leyah shanks

But, she says, that it also made her feel "strong".

"Like I was giving a big middle finger to stupid societal standards of beauty. I was also really proud of myself and everyone who has sponsored me for raising so much money to kick cancer’s ass."

Shanks hopes to show people that femininity isn't just about having long hair and stereotypically feminine features.

"Femininity and feminism in general is about equality for all and being free to express yourself however you choose, whether that be with pouting red lips, hot pants or au natural," she says.

"I hope that I can make people more aware of the varying conditions which result in involuntary hair loss and prove that being bald is nothing to be ashamed of. It's pretty awesome!"

19 Fashion Struggles Only A Londoner Can Understand

london fashion struggles

Living in the fashion capital of England can have its benefits (incredible shopping, stylish events and London Fashion Week to name a few), but there are certain times the struggle can outweigh the style.

Ring any bells? Here are 19 fashion problems only a true Londoner would understand (and yes, most of them involve the Tube):

1. Layering up for the walk to the station then sweating like a pig when you get on the Underground.

2. Spending an hour on your hair and then the tube fucking it up with the gale force wind it creates.

3. White trainers do not stay white longer than approximately 15 mins after being anywhere other than a park.

4. Dressing for summer and then it raining. All day.

5. Topman/Topshop in Oxford Circus.

6. Coming to the realisation you can never buy Topshop again. That "unique" dress you loved? Yeah, 24,000 other girls loved it too...

7. Not wanting to be that person who wears trainers with tights, then eventually succumbing after yet another blistery commute.

8. Getting dirt and grime from the city on your new mac, then crying when the dry cleaner fails to get it off.

9. Having to avoid floaty skirts / dresses when travelling on the Underground. For obvious reasons.

10. DJs playing their shitty set in shops at 2pm on a Saturday when all you want to do is buy your underwear in peace. I don't want an "experience".

11. Wearing the same thing as someone else at work and then being moved next to all the really annoying photographic evidence during the latest desk move.

matching

12. Walking past a charity shop and realising you're dressed EXACTLY the same as the clothes model in the window.

13. Realising you can't even afford charity shop clothes anymore because they've got all "trendy". WHAT THE HELL.

14. Walking into a charity shop then realising it's actually Urban Outfitters.

15. Getting organic chain oil on your bespoke Barbour jacket while cleaning your fixie bike on Dalston high street.

16. Whatever you wear, you will feel stuffy, boring and bland in East London.

17. Knowing that someone stepping on your feet when you're wearing sandals is almost inevitable. Peep toes? No way.

18. Wearing sandals and then becoming conscious of EVERYONE on the tube staring at your toes.

19. Realising that your bang-on-trend Kooples jumpsuit is virtually identical to the overalls the engineers who fix signal failures wear.

Nike Air Max 90 25th Anniversary: Are These Chocolate Nikes The Best Design Yet?

$

The Nike Air Max 90 is being reissued in all sorts of stylish special editions this year to celebrate the trainer's 25th anniversary... but we never expected an edible version!

London based design student Milan Miladinov decided he could do one better than the brand's official designs and recreated the iconic shoe out of solid chocolate.

The results were nothing short of incredible...

Miladinov told HuffPost UK Style: "I was hugely inspired by the new CocoJet chocolate 3D printing technology that has very recently been released.

"It got me thinking about the culinary possibilities we will have and naturally, being a huge fan of the Air Max 90, I put this in the mixture of thoughts."

He revealed he created the shoe by making a silicon mould around the Air Max 90, filling it with plaster first to keep its shape.

The designer then melted milk chocolate and hand-painted the inside of the mould "to get all the amazing detail". Once painted, he closed the mould up and filled it completely with the liquid chocolate.

It took 15 whole hours at room temperature for the chocolate to set, but we think this sweet design was definitely worth the wait (although this is one shoe that definitely needs to stay inside the box).

Think You Know How To Pronounce 'Parmesan'? Think Again

You may say 'tomato' and I may say 'tomato', but apparently we've all been saying 'Parmesan' wrong.

According to the US version of the Cambridge Dictionary, Parmesan (that hard cheese that makes even the most bland risotto taste like heaven) is pronounced somewhat differently to what you might expect.

Clicking on the mini speaker on their Parmesan page prompts a lovely (yet terribly misinformed) woman to pronounce Parmesan like Pennsylvania ('pen-syl-vain-ya’).

What is clearly a mistake on the website's part has been amusing the internet for the past 24 hours and we must admit it has certainly made us giggle.

But if you're ever in the presence of a real food snob, you'll know that mispronouncing foods is no laughing matter -God forbid you ever pronounce quinoa like "kwin-oh-ah" in the presence of a foodie.

So, to help prevent future mishaps around the dinner table, here's our handy pronunciation guide to help you get your tongue around some of the more hard-to-pronounce foods. Enjoy.

Watching 3D Films Boosts Brain Function

Watching movies is a pastime that often gets a lot of stick primarily because most of us think it's a mindless activity.

Well we have some good news. New research spearheaded by neuroscientist Patrick Fagan from Goldsmiths university shows that 3D movies are better at boosting brain power than 2D movies.

brain function
Brain activity was monitored throughout a short sequence of the film "Big Hero 6"

Fagan conducted a two-fold experiment involving over 100 people watching Disney's Big Hero 6 in RealD 3D and 2D and found that people performed better at brain training tests covering memory, reaction times and cognitive function after watching the former.

The research, commissioned by Vue and done in partnership with the Thrill Laboratory, showed a 23 per cent increase in cognitive processing, participants' awareness and reasoning abilities, and a 11 per cent increase in reaction times - handy information if you're still trying to persuade your mate to watch Avengers: Age of Ultron in 3D.

If you've ever watched a film in 3D, you'll know that it's similar to watching real life. The only difference is that in some cases, it can be more immersive than real life.

Let's face it, watching Thor wield his earth-shattering hammer into space is far more physiologically stimulating than watching your cat run around in your lounge.

So, it's not surprising that those watching 3D films were seven per cent more emotionally engaged with what they were seeing on screen.

Since participants were more immersed in the action of a 3D film compared to a 2D film, their brains were also more active and working at a faster pace.

The "Avengers" films have become some of the highest-grossing 3D films in history.

The second part of Fagan's experiment measuring the cohort's brain activity using headsets. confirmed this.

Fagan said: It is a fact that people are living longer and there is a noticeable decline in cognitive brain function in old age which can impair future quality of life.

There has never been a better time to look at ways to improve brain function.

The initial results of this study indicate that 3D films may potentially play a role in slowing this decline.

Don't feel guilty next time you fork out the extra cash for a 3D film - you're just brain training.

Woman Sheds Three Stone And Three Dress Sizes By Ditching Snacks For Homecooked Meals

A woman has shed three stone by increasing the amount she was eating.

Emma Bowie, 23, grew to a size 18 and nearly 15 stone following the birth of her daughter Olivia, now five.

When doctors warned her she would have to come off the contraceptive patch if she continued gaining weight she vowed to lose weight.

And she did it by eating more. Now she is a size 12 and 11st 2lb.

slimmer

She told how before losing weight she mainly survived on snacks such as crisps and chocolate. Now she will cook herself meals like pasta salads and stir fries.

For the first time she will also wear clothes including playsuits and miniskirts.

“I was so busy with Olivia that I barely had time to eat,” Miss Bowie, of Glasgow, said. “I never had breakfast and I’d just snack throughout the day or grab a takeaway in the evening.

“I wasn’t eating a lot but I ate all the wrong things.

“Now, I make sure I have three meals a day.

“I eat a lot more but it is all healthy things, so my body doesn’t store the fat.”

Story continues below...

Previously 14st 12lb Miss Bowie decided to tackle her weight after it crept over the threshold recommended by doctors for those using the contraceptive patch.

The NHS advises that the patch may not be suitable for those over 14 stone as it can potentially cause blood clots.

Dr Anita Sturnham of NURISS Skin Care & Wellness said:
“For most women the contraceptive patch is safe, but there are some medical conditions which may make this method potentially risky for your health.

“If you are overweight you have an increased risk of blood clots in your lungs or legs or even heart disease if you use this method of hormonal contraception.”

Miss Bowie said hearing she may be too heavy for the contraceptive patch was her wake-up call.

“I didn’t want to use any other type of contraception as they’d given me awful side effects in the past, so I decided to join Slimming World,” she said.

“At my first meeting, I was really to get on the scales and realise just how heavy I was.”

Originally, she signed up with five friends but, slowly, they all dropped out.

However, determined Miss Bowie refused to quit.

“I was so focused on getting to my goal weight that I didn’t let my friends quitting tempt me to do the same,” she said.

“Seeing the difference in my body shape spurred me on.

“It was amazing to be able to go shopping and be able to buy pretty tops and skimpy dresses.

“I never realised how unhealthy I was until I looked back on pictures of myself at my heaviest.”

As well as sticking to her meal plan, Miss Bowie also swims, jogs and uses a vibrating plate to maintain her trim figure.

She has also helped motivate others to get in shape.

“My friends, family and colleagues are always asking me for tips,” she said.

“It’s one thing to see a celebrity looking thin in a magazine but it’s another to see somebody you know in real life.

“Some weeks, I’ll put on a couple of pounds but I always lose it again.

“It’s strange to think I eat a lot more now than I ever did before, but it just goes to show that you don’t have to starve yourself.”

Mum's Heartbreaking Appeal To Get Toddler The Same Cancer Treatment As Ashya King

A mum has made a heartbreaking appeal to get lifesaving treatment for her three-year-old son who is suffering from leukaemia for the second time.

J'ssiah Brown beat odds of a million-to-one, when his older brother donated his bone marrow to help him recover from leukaemia last year.

But in March the family, from Camberwell, south east London, were told J'ssiah's cancer had returned.

His mother Jeanene Walters, 28, is now fundraising to get J'ssiah proton beam treatment, which the parents of Ashya King say cured him of brain cancer.

"The therapy he could have abroad could kill off the cancer completely," says Walters. "We just have to get him there."

skin appeal

A rare combination of chemotherapy treatment and liver failure had a side effect on J'ssiah's skin, which is now covered in blotchy white patches - that has led to his mum even being accused of burning him.

"J'ssiah's mottled skin is a daily reminder what a brave little champ he is," says Walters.

"All I want to do is cry but he's not crying. If a tear trickles down my cheek, J'ssiah strokes my face and wipes away the tears.

"His strength gives me strength. I'm shouting out for help from everyone so J'ssiah can get the help he needs to live."

British doctors say they can do nothing for J'ssiah's skin because he has just four months to live - and NHS machines which could help won't be ready for three years.

The family is now trying to raise £150,000 to get J'ssiah state-of-the-art proton beam treatment in the USA, or Israel.

The treatment destroys cancer cells directly, leaving healthy tissue virtually untouched unlike in chemotherapy.

Walters said: "We're fundraising like there's no tomorrow.

"The school have done jeans for J'ssiah days, we've hosted fun days, runs, boxing matches, we're selling T-shirts and putting posters up all around town.

"Our only hope is proton beam therapy and intravenous Vitamin C treatment. A consultation with a doctor in America alone costs £20,000."

J'ssiah was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at the age of just one, in June 2013.

He was quickly put on a four-month course of chemotherapy but the cancer spread and doctors said his only chance was a bone marrow transplant.

His brother Kyerell and sister Ashiya, six, both jumped at the chance to save their brother's life and Kyerell was found to be a perfect match.

The transplant, in April last year, was deemed a success until J'ssiah started to reject the donor organ and had to be put in a medically induced coma at the Royal Marsden Hospital, in Sutton, Surrey.

J'ssiah was woken up after a month and doctors believed he had recovered.

But his skin had turned a mottled white and black because he suffered liver failure during the coma.

Walters said: "His skin pigmented because his liver wasn't functioning.

"I've had people come up to me and accuse me of mistreating him and even burning him.

"It's heartbreaking, I would never hurt him and I would do anything in the world to save my beautiful little boy."

In March Walters noticed a tumour on her son's leg and when she took him to the doctors she was told his cancer had returned.

Full-time carer Walters said: "This time, they said there was nothing more they could do.

"J'ssiah had received too much chemotherapy in his short life and they feared he couldn't take any more."

The NHS is currently building two proton beam centres, one in Manchester and another in London, but these are not expected to be operational until 2018.

If patients are thought to be suitable for treatment, the NHS can pay for the treatment abroad.

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation is yet to respond to a request to comment.

At the time of writing J'ssiah's fund had topped £10,000, to donate, please visit gofundme.com/qxwk4g.

Transgender Woman Challenges Facebook's Rules On Nipples: 'Gender Isn't Just Two Boxes'

Luna Winters is on a mission: to challenge Facebook's nudity policy and question how we define gender in one go.

Winters, who identifies as a transgender woman, posted a topless photo of herself to Facebook along with her change of name document.

Facebook currently restricts "some images of female breasts if they include the nipple", but their community standards do not mention anything about transgender nipples.

thank you facebook for verifying i am not in breech of your rules. please see here...https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1590770551179895&set=pb.100007408958104.-2207520000.1431892815.&type=3&theater

Posted by Luna Winters on Sunday, 17 May 2015

In a message accompanying the image, Winters, who supports the #FreeTheNippleMovement, asked Facebook: "Now as your rules specifically state 'female' and as I am a male, I ask you, where do you differentiate between one gender and the next?

"I've seen men on here with bigger tits than me and yet you do not sensor them. Clearly this is not only sexist but it discriminates against a sex entirely."

Upon review, the social networking site reportedly allowed the image to remain on Winters' profile.

However, she says when she shared the image again telling her friends the happy news that it had been accepted, the second, identical image was removed.

Speaking to i100, Winters said: "I think for me this shows that they aren’t thinking about how gender isn’t just two boxes that you tick. It’s a spectrum, and you should be allowed to express yourself how you want."

A spokesperson from Facebook told HuffPost UK Lifestyle they are currently investigating the issue around Luna Winters' photos.

They also highlighted that Facebook actively works to support members of the transgender community.

Last year, the site introduced 71 gender options for users to choose from.

Earlier this year, this option was expanded to include a custom box, allowing people to add up to ten separate gender terms and define the audience that sees each one.

Facebook's diversity page reads: "We recognise that some people face challenges sharing their true gender identity with others, and this setting gives people the ability to express themselves in an authentic way.”

Forget The Six Pack,The Latest Must-Have For Men Is Visibly Throbbing Veins...Apparently

If you think it's just women who are subjected to ridiculous beauty standards, think again.

According to some personal trainers, visibly throbbing veins have replaced six packs as the latest must-have for men.

"Vascularity is the new six pack," Elias Carmelo, a personal trainer and model in New York told Details magazine.

According to Carmelo, the most important vein for a man to display is the cephalic, which runs along the forearm and the biceps from the wrist to mid-shoulder.

"When you can see that vein, you think, 'wow, that guy's pretty fit'," he said.

exercise veins

Personal trainer Andrew Ginsburg agreed the cephalic is to be desired, saying: "Every Calvin Klein model ever has had that arm vein. It's a rite of passage. If you don't have it, your arms aren't that good."

But not everyone supports the new focus on veins.

Writing for The Cut, Alison P. Davis sarcastically asks: "Is there anything hotter than a well-functioning circulatory system?"

"He’s worked out so hard that his blue veins threaten to burst forth from his skin in a virile celebration of the many chicken breasts he has eaten and the many reps he has performed in order to maintain his low BMI," she adds.

So, what causes bulging veins in the first place and, more importantly, are they safe?

"Bulging is neither good nor bad but simply a result of normal physiological mechanisms that result from the rise in arterial blood pressure during exertion," Professor Mark A. W. Andrews previously said.

According to Men's Fitness, the key to increasing vein definition is by decreasing body fat.

"If you want to start to see your veins protrude, then you want to workout using a high-volume, high-rep method," they wrote.

"The drawback to this game plan is that it’s only temporary - once you leave the iron behind you can kiss those beautiful veins goodbye."

In other words, getting visible veins will take most men a lot of work and after all that, they're only temporary.

If we were you guys, we'd stick to the 'dad bod'.
